Teaching Certification


Howard University’s Ready to Teach (RtT) Program is a unique program designed for those who have previously earned a Bachelor’s Degree and now seek to make a career transition into the teaching profession. The RtT Program prepares qualified candidates to teach for high-needs schools in:

Chicago (IL), Clayton County (GA), Houston (TX), Prince George’s County (MD), and Washington (DC).

Do I qualify for the RtT Program?

  • A Bachelor’s Degree (with required coursework) from an accredited college or university
  • 2.7 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 grading scale)
  • A desire to teach in a public school for at least 3 years
  • Passing scores on the Praxis I and Praxis II(Content) Examinations  

Important Notice to Potential Candidates

  • All application materials must be received by the October 15th, 2008 deadline in order for you application to be considered.

  • You must pass ALL 3 parts of the PRAXIS I Exam (Reading, Writing, Mathematics) prior to the October 15th, 2008 application deadline.
  • ALL candidates must take the Praxis Exams.  No other test may be substituted for the Praxis Exams.
